There is an unpretentious little restaurant in Jalan Terengganu, Penang, which serves quite authentic Thai food. Proprietor Ivan Tan is a former civil engineer who used to run a café in border town of Alor Star, where he met a Thai who is an excellent cook. Ivan decided to set up the restaurant six months ago, and now runs it with his wife.
They serve traditional Thai dishes but with a fair number of Thai restaurants already on this island, Ivan strives to make the food in Atawoo unique. He does this by adapting the classic dishes slightly. For office workers who have only an hour for lunch, Atawoo offers a fast, three course set lunch for between two to three people for RM 19.90 to RM 29.90.
